Prayer Beads are used by all Buddhists and by many other religions as well. The set above is made of red flake jasper beads, 6mm round, and genuine Bali silver...Total length is 30" including 5 ivory white ball tassels.  The prayer beads are a religious implement used during gongyo and daimoku as one expresses, through heartfelt prayer, their appreciation for the Three Treasures of Buddhism: the Buddha, the Law, and the gathering of followers of Nichiren and Nikko.  In the days of Nichiren Daishonin, prayer beads had only two tassels on each end. Later on, however, another tassel was added at one end of the beads. Each Buddhist School may have a different use for the Juzu, prayer beads, but one of the main uses is for counting prayers or prostrations. It is also a symbol that identifies the carrier as someone who follows the Buddhist path. Each school of Buddhism has their own style of Juzu. Some are small for the wrist and others are large. The beads may be made of bone, crystal, Bodhi tree wood, bamboo, coral or any number of materials.  The number of beads may vary but the most common denominator is one hundred and eight. One hundred and eight represents the one hundred and eight earthly desires.  We make each one of our beads for every walk of life, meaning that we believe each of us is capable of delivering that special kind of blessing to our fellow man... Please Note: All of our sets of beads are hand strung on either heavy cable or silk cord. Agressive rubbing of the beads when chanting can cause the inside of the beads to cut the cable or cording.
